ANKARA UNIVERSITY FACULTY OF SPORT SCIENCES
The fundamental mission of Ankara University Faculty of Sport Sciences is the development and preparation of contemporary coaches, physical education and sport teachers and sport managers, abiding by the ethical standards and the Principles and Revolutions of Atatürk, equipped with necessary technical knowledge in the area of sport. Building a healthy society requires healthy members. Apart from health enhancing function, sport provides the most suitable setting for countries to exhibit their political and economic powers along with the promotion of their countries through the international sport organizations and these vital functions can only be realized through the development and preparation of well-educated physical education and sport teachers, coaches, sport managers and sport scientists.
Sport Sciences Faculty conducts research to contribute to the world of science, to ensure that sport is performed through scientific methods and to help disseminate sport along with the mission of preparing and training professionals for the field of sport. Faculty of Sport Sciences dates back to 1983 when Physical Education and Sport Department was established as a unit of Ankara University. Following the closure of the department in 1993, The School of Physical Education and Sport opened its doors with 30 students in Tandoğan Campus. In 2013, pursuant of a Cabinet Decree, The Faculty of Sport Sciences was established following the closure of The School of Physical Education and Sport. Our Faculty has been offering education in newly built facilities located in Gölbaşı 50th Year Campus since 2012. The Faculty of Sport Sciences offers academic programs in three distinctive areas at the bachelor level; Coaching Education, Physical Education and Sport Teaching and Sport Management. For the masters’ and doctoral levels, the faculty offers Physical Education and Sport program at the doctoral level and The Training and Movement Sciences, Sport Education Sciences, Sport Management Sciences, Psycho-Social Areas in Sport and Physical Activity, Health and Sport Sciences Programs under the management of Sport Sciences Department serving as a unit of Graduate School of Health Sciences. In addition, the faculty offers Sport Education program at masters’ level under the management of Physical Education and Sport Teaching Department serving as a unit of Graduate School of Educational Sciences.
